Tōdai-ji

The Daibutsuden (Big Buddha Hall) of Tōdai-ji was originally built in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan. It was destroyed twice by fire in 1180 and 1567. The current building, 57 m in width, 50.5 m in length, and 49 m in height, was from the reconstruction in 1692. Its width is only two thirds of the original temple hall.
