This building is a prominent structure that remained standing in the area around the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. It was originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, designed by Czech architect Jan Letzel in 1915. Because the explosion was almost directly overhead, the building kept its shape.
