The 1,200km, 88-temple Buddhist pilgrimage route (henro) honoring the 9th-century monk Kukai (空海), posthumously called Kōbō Daishi (弘法大師), who was born in Shikoku. At age of 30, he travelled and studied Buddhism in China. Upon his return, he founded the esoteric Shingon school of Buddhism in Japan. The route encircles the Shikoku island.
Beautiful collection of temple photos. We hiked the stretch of the first thirteen temples of the Shikoku Henro in 4 days in the summer of 2019. Serene memories! V
