Gallery-Students Drawing Tablet

Apparently, this tablet originally belonged to my father's best friend at the time. Somehow the collection fell into Walt's possession. Both men were students at the Art Institute of Chicago. It appears that my father used sketches by his friend for the paper upon which to practice his cartooning. Many, if not all, of Jackson's drawings are dated 1929 and preceded Walt's sketches by a few years. Walt graduated from high school in 1929 and spent a semester at Illinois College in Jacksonville before attending art school. Odds are that he didn't attend the art institute until January of 1930. The cartoons by him in this book that are dated, are from 1934 and 1935. On sketch 5931 there is a notation stating "Midland Metal Company, Chicago, Illinois." While in art school, Walt worked full time. I never heard him mention where he worked. I wonder if it was Midland?
