A new and innovative way to hitchhike. Dad hitchhiked from NYC to Illinois during the thirties. He had some stories to tell about that trip. My favorite went something like this: He was riding across Indiana with a farmer who invited him to stop at his home to eat dinner. Dad sat at the table with the man and his family eating a fantastic meal with all of the trimmings. Dad devoured everything on his plate, but couldn't tell what kind of meat had been so delicious. When he finished, he remarked how amazing it tasted and asked what kind of meat that was. The lady of the house told him it was muskrat! Dad loved telling that story and I loved hearing it!
