I was surprised to find out that there were wolves at Cold Bay. One decided to hang around our radar site for a couple of days. He was very skittish, but I was able to take a photo of him with a telephoto lens. I heard he was nearby, so I grabbed my camera, went outside and leaned the camera and lens against the T-5 building for stability. The wolf was mingling with our dogs, so it was readily apparent that he was larger than the Labrador Retrievers. One striking feature was that he had very long legs compared to the dogs. He also strode with a trot that reminded me of a trotter horse. I was told by fish and wildlife that there were probably no more than three or four wolves in the entire area. There had been rumors that Mitzi, our matron Lab, had a wolf as a boyfriend. I wondered if that was why he was there!
