When the Army closed Fort Randall, it just left the buildings to disintegrate in the elements. As I recall, most of the Quonset huts were located in depressions in the ground. I assumed that was for protection from the constant wind. In 1970 there were still many Quonset huts remaining. On our trips to town, we passed by them. I don't remember exploring them the way we did Navy Town, but I sure wish we had. Perhaps we would have found another souvenir such as the button from Navy Town that said: "To Hell with Tojo!" The only words I can make out on this sign are "Caution....cable." I remember wondering why that sign was even there. This slide came right after the one identified as the road to Trout Creek, so I am guessing it was near where I took that picture.
