A jeep was parked at Grant Point. The Izembek Lagoon was at low tide. When I arrived in May of 1970, I was especially interested in the extent to which the water receded. There were far fewer rocks than I expected that were exposed above the mud on the bottom of the lagoon. I wrote home that the decaying vegetation isn’t the most pleasant-smelling thing in the world. That was an understatement!
