Laundry Room

Cold Bay Air Force Station, AK

Extractor! What's that? That was my first thought when I was shown our laundry room. We each did our own laundry here. We washed and dried our clothing in commercial-grade machines. The front-loaders were the washers. Yes, I learned that the extractor was a separate machine for the spin cycle. After washing, we used the extractor next to the washers to remove most of the water from our clothing. The extractor was the machine with pedals near the floor. Then we put the clothes in the dryers. The dryers were near the extractor and almost out of the picture. SSgt Bill Webster, who sneaked me the cheese from our kitchen, unloaded one of the washers. I think he was using a pan from the kitchen as a laundry basket. Since the clothes were soaked and dripping when taken from the washers, this made sense. Ha!
