The road to town was surfaced with dirt and gravel. The grader was necessary to keep the road relatively smooth. Our Commanding Officer, Lt Col John Quirk, really loved to operate that grader when it became necessary to use it. Although we had Civil Engineering staff that graded the road, the Commander liked to give the grader "a whirl" now and then.
The olive green truck with the canvas cover was one of our recreational vehicles, an old weapons carrier. The pickup was not one of our vehicles. We must have had a visitor from the town of Cold Bay.
