General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo (1807 – 1890) was a Californian military commander, politician, and rancher who shaped the transition of California from a Mexican district to an American state. During the years that Mission San Francisco Solano was active, General Mariano Vallejo resided in town. His well preserved home is about 2 miles from the central square of Sonoma.
