Professor Roberto Falco was an ebullient Sicilian consigned to what he saw
as the gray city of Milano. As full professor of physics at the politecnico,
he had made a great reputation for himself not only for ground-breaking work
in the esoterica of quantum optics but also for his fervent emotional outbursts
bordering on hysteria. Actually, many thought that he crossed over that border
more than occasionally – berating a colleague professor at a student’s thesis
defense or standing at a door and shouting loud professions of love to a student
while she and her husband lay sleeping in their apartment.
