I think that the third Marine from the right, the guy facing us with the cigarette in his hand, was SSGT Dave Harwood.

"Piss-cutter"!!! Wow, that's a term I haven't heard in 51 years. Wonder how it came about. Was an AKA any better than an LST? Isn't that one of those ships that drove "Mr. Roberts" nuts?
Yeah .... the Skagit. Now I remember! We used to make a lot of jokes about the name !!
I don't remember the scene either but some of those guys look familiar. The master sgt. with the piss-cutter on? Was his name Winters ? Sounds right to me but not sure.

No this was not an LST. This was the ship which took us to Taiwan in 1958. USS Skagit (AKA 105) if I remember correctly. But, it was part of the Amphibious Fleet.I myself, do not remember this particular scene. I do not recognize anyone in the photo.

Is this one of those clanking LSTs? The work horse of the Navy they were, I'm sure, but I sure learned to hate them while at the same time learning to respect those swabbys who ran them . . . .
