The ruins of Basgo Monastery and Fort (Basgo Gompa),
located about 35 km west of Leh along the Srinagar-Leh highway.
Built on precipitous ochre-colored cliffs and sandstone formations,
the complex includes the surviving whitewashed Maitreya temples and
remnants of the ancient royal citadel.
