Located just a block from the central plaza, this basilica is a crowd pleaser. The Roman Catholic Cathedral was built by Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy between 1869 - 1886 on the site of 2 earlier churches, one of which was destroyed during the Pueblo Revolt. The French-born Archbishop Lamy built the church in the Romanesque Revival style. Its square towers appear truncated because they were never finished.
