Moffat Tunnel

Rollinsville, Colorado

Not very grand in appearance, and reached only via a dirt road, the tunnel is a railroad tunnel that cuts through the Continental Divide, and was named after railroad pioneer David Moffat. The tunnel opened in 1928. The apex of the tunnel is at 9,239 feet. The engineering marvel of its time provided Denver with a direct railway link west to Salt Lake City and beyond.
