General Burgoyne retreated after his defeat and his army surrendered a few days later. This prevented the British from further attacking via Canada and prevented the isolation of New England from the rest of the colonies. France then entered the conflict on America's side. The Battles of Saratoga are usually considered the turning point of the Revolution.
