WWI Memorial

Providence, Rhode Island

In 1925 Providence staged a competition to choose a design for a memorial to the local soldiers in World War I. They chose a granite shaft by the architect who designed the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington. The column was recently relocated to Riverwalk. The heroic figure of Peace (or Victory) stands atop the shaft.
