Located in Fort Canning Park and originally known as Bukit Larangan (Forbidden Hill) because local settlers were wary of the area because they believed it had been the site of palaces built by ancestral kings. Indeed, the hill was believed to be the resting place of the last Malay king of the island (seen here) and therefore venerated by Muslims. Ruins were eventually excavated, validating the legends.
