Whenever a white elephant is found in Thailand it must be reported to the Ministry of the Interior. After a thorough examination to determine if the seven special characteristics of a true white elephant are present (white eyes, palate, nails, hairs, skin, tail hair, and genitals), the King will raise the elephant to the royal rank.
