One of the nicest 15th-century temples you will find, and located well northwest of the city moat. Built by King Tilokkarat in 1453 to host the Eighth World Buddhist Council. His remains are in one of the chedis on the grounds. The main rectangular chedi has seven spires ("chet yod") and was supposed to be a copy of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, where Buddha attained enlightenment. However, while there are similarities, it is hardly a copy. On the exterior walls, and visible in this photo, are 70 smiling heavenly beings.
