Gunnison Canyon

Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado

Most rivers of the Southwest cut through sedimentary rock that often from canyons that are wide and colorful. The Gunnison River flows across harder igneous rock, resulting in a spectacularly steep v-shaped gorge. This is the northern end of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River, a river that is a tributary to the Colorado River.
