Probably the most stunning portion of the Going To The Sun Road is the towering Garden Wall -- clearly the most difficult portion of the road to build and maintain. You can pick out the Going To The Sun Road across the valley from this overlook near Logan Pass. In 2008 major construction was "saving" the highway. The Garden Wall is a sharp, knife-edged glacial arete that extends for several miles; formed when two glaciers carve out both sides of a mountain range, until only a thin ridge remains in the middle. These glaciers that carved the Garden Wall are estimated to have been up to 4,000 feet thick.
