Marstein
1877. Active; focal plane 38 m (125 ft); white flash every 10 s; also a red light, occulting in groups of two, at 29 m (95 ft). 17 m (56 ft) square cylindrical masonry tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a 1-story service building. Lighthouse painted white; lantern roof painted red. 1-story keeper's house in poor condition. The Kystverket has a photo, and a portfolio of 36 photos is available. Automated in 2002, the station was damaged by a severe storm in 2005. The repaired station was transferred to Austevoll Kommune, which has begun offering helicopter tours to the light station for organized groups. Located on a small island on the south side of the entrance to the Korsfjord. This is the route to Bergen for larger vessels, so there should be a view of the lighthouse from North Sea ferries bound for that city. Accessible only by boat or helicopter. Site and tower open to guided tours. ARLHS NOR-031; Admiralty B3780; NGA 3520.
