Jun 18: WO?

No idea what this sign means. It's been uncovered by the ongoing field work. I've been working my way back towards a 200+ year old dry stone wall. It was behind 4' of nettles, but now I've found it, I want to know what it means. So what does a WO sign mark? Water Outlet? Waste Outlet? WO, something nasty? Something to WOrry about no doubt. Especially as it's on our land. Anyone know? Ray?

Apparently, FH =Fire Hydrant, SV = Stop Valve, WO = Wash Out. Wash Out? Should have had one of these at last weekend's Le Mans.

On further thought it could mark the point where your own water feed comes off the main and there's a stopcock. But with the renovations you're doing, I guess you would now where that is by now

War Office ? Buried munitions ? - but it doesn't have the arrow head sign of the MoD. Seriously, it could mark the route of a water pipeline from the local supply to buildings further along the pipe or a stopcock location for shutting off supply as necessary. I'd guess the local water board offices would have maps of the distribution network and you might be able to check if pipes are running under your land.
