Jul 26: Stainless SP

I've spent 4 hours attempting to fit a stainless steel firewall in the engine bay of the Beetle. The 40 year old cardboard liner had sagged and was fouling the cooling fan so it had to go. I thought a shiny stainless one would look good. I had one in the old VW, and that was a total pain to fit, and this one was no easier. They come from Taiwan, and like most made in Taiwan VW accesories, they don't fit. Simply put, they're the wrong shape and there's no way to fit them properly. So having trimmed it to the right shape, drilled holes for the wiring, fitted yesterday's grommets, I finally gave up and I now have a nice stainless steel photo prop. Here's me reflecting on a waste of £25...

Nice distortion. I see you're still futzing with the engine overhaul! Hang in there... Still too hot for me to be in the garage on mine...

After all that time and money, I can see why you are so bent out of shape!! :0)
However, knowing you, this prop will show up in creative ways in the future. How about a portrait of Linda in it?
