Jan 6: Lenses

My 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.7 and 135mm f3.5 Pentax ‘M’ lenses that I use with my ME and MX bodies. Why photograph them today? Well, I love the colours reflected in the coatings... and I’ve been thinking about lenses recently. If you ever read any of the on line photography forums, everyone seems to be asking about which lenses to buy, or which lens is best. Daft questions, as it doesn’t really matter. Choose the focal length you want, then it’s just a matter of how much money you want to spend. The more you spend, the better the lens, remembering that better can mean construction, focus speed, aperture size etc etc. So is an EF 17-40 f4 L better than an EF-S 18-55 f3.5-5.6? Of course it is, it’s 6 times the price!! You’ll know it’s better just by holding it in you hand. But you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference in a photograph taken at f11. More important is the person behind the camera. Got that? Good!

All this talk about the Pentax reminds me of my dads ME super, used to love playing with it when I was a kid, and only recently starting to enjoy photography rather than just playing with the camera, yours and many other galleries are such an inspiration :) hopefully will see you and your bug at some up and coming veedub shows too :)

U captured the coatings nicely. Its easy to get caught up in "equipment angst" and it causes u too foget the more important part of photography, taking pictures.

A full-service PaD -- not only a teffific photo, but sage advice. Thanks for both!

Well said, DM. Nice photo, I like the reflected colors. Wish I could use my old pentax lenses with my d-reb!

Great reflection, esp on black background

Got it! And I agree with you that the different color reflections in each lens make for an excellent image.

These look like funnily arranged traffic lights, or do you colour code your lenses?
I love my 17-40L but I'm not sure its SIX times as good as the kit lens? Hmmm...

I've read those forums - now I get it.
