Sep 14: Just the basics

This evening, I had a demonstration of how out of date the Lurker really is. Linda's parents popped in with some bits and bobs for us, and to show off their new car. The technology in it is amazing. Some highlights: You don't need to use a key. Just having the plastic dodad thing in your pocket is good enough to unlock the doors, and a press of a button starts the engine. The headlights come on automatically in the dark, as do the windscreen wipers in the rain. It knows to put the hand brake on when you stop the engine, and release it when you drive away... and the gadget list went on and on. All very impressive.

My old VW on the other hand has none of this. It has the basics like 4 wheels and an engine, and I have added a few modern luxuries it never had 40 years ago when it was new. Like 12v electrics, 2 speed wipers and radial tyres... But I still have to switch the lights on and off myself.

You could always get a sticker that says: "Undercover spy car!".... I bet Lindas parents haven't got one of those!

How Boring! I hate gadgets.
Quite funny going along the Guildford by-pass today; I saw one of those motor bike thingys with a Beetle rear end. And just as it passed by, the guy on the radio said, "He's one cool Dude..."
The timing was so perfect.
