Off to Goodwood today for the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. Every year, Lord March opens his grounds for the weekend to host what the official web site says "can justifiably claim to be the world’s biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motor sport." A fantastic idea when you have as much land as he has! Each year, along with the stars, the cars, the hillclimb course and the Pimms, they have a theme, with a big display in front of the house. This usually involves nailing racing cars to the top of 80' steel poles sunk into the lawn. Very spectacular. This year the theme was Rolls Royce, and this is a Rolls Royce powered Supermarine S6, the plane that won the Schneider Trophy for Britain in 1929 and 1931. Nailed to an 80' steel pole of course! Goodwood is an hours ride from home (or 2 hours in a car due to the traffic) and the Festival of Speed a fantastic day out. Big thanks to Gary for getting the tickets.
