Apr 27: Paperweight

I bought this Sigma 70-300 'DL Macro Super' a few years ago with my first Canon EOS camera. It was always a bit slow to focus, but I got some pretty good 6x4 prints using it. Or so I thought. Recent examination of those pictures shows some extreme distortion. It's not so sharp either. Eventually I sold it for £20 and bought a Canon 100-300 USM instead - a much better lens. But the autofocus motor in the Sigma died. It came back, and I returned the £20. It doesn't work on the Digital bodies, even in manual focus mode. So now it's just a paperweight. Got to stop those bills blowing away somehow!

See the distortion with this lens here... in case you're wondering, the pit wall and garages should be parallel!

weird, i am getting on okay with my nikkor 70-300, i do crave the 70-200 f2.8ED VR though, but as the image shows, it is not the equipment it is the person behind that really counts!

not where is that catalogue

And you poor, poor Nikon users can't upgrade to a 70-200f4L either! Ha ha, ha ha, ha ha! ;-)

A paper weight befitting a great photographer!

Linda, that's MY money!!! And I am not in love with my 70-300 from Nikon either....It would make a nice paperweight, but I have no English currency!

Aha! This is what I can do with my Nikon 70-300..... my biggest purchase-mistake thus far.

I just checked the serial numbers for this one against yesterday's. Just curious to see if it was the same bill or if you just have these laying about the house in quantity.
Sorry to read your tale of woe.

LOL @ Linda!

Looks like an older version of the lens.. I used to own this (gave it to my friend Stephanie when I got the 70-200L IS) and it looked different than this. Also worked with both my D60 and hers. Does make an interesting paperweight though!! ;)

So what's happening at the end of the week? In line with the Coke theme will you be burning Linda's dosh?
btw, I only buy Canon lenses now too.
