Bird table action

I said I'd do better than this!

But today's shot was just an excuse to try out Canon’s Remote Capture software. I set up the camera in the conservatory, linked via USB to the iBook laptop in the dining room. Setting the camera up disturbed the doves so I had to wait an hour or so before they returned, where from warmth of the dining room I could pic my moments and snap away with the space bar. BTW it was another dark grey rainy day, I had to use ISO 800 just to get a half respectable shutter speed.

Notes on Canon remote capture.

i. Obviously with a DSLR there’s no on screen viewfinder.
ii. There’s no way to wake the camera via the USB link, so turn off the standby mode.
iii. Download takes an age, and you can’t fire the shutter while an image is downloading.

Other than that, it’s great and I was actually editing in Photoshop while waiting for the next bit of action - try that with film!

Nice use of the remote capture feature. I haven't used it myself as of yet on my 10D.

Sounds like a good project to try. The results were well worth it.

Fine shot - very well done.

Very cool shot David. I've been meaning to try and use the Canon remote capture with my camera as well. I've played around with it a few time but nothing serious. Do you know if anyone else makes a more intuitive remote capture software for canon cameras?

What he doesn't say is that the collared dove on the table is turning round ready to prevent the newcomer from landing. There is such a clear pecking order amongst the group that the 'head dove' has his/her fill before allowing any of the others on the table. Watching them is fascinating.

I know I can't wait to see more of this type of work from David when the weather conditions allow more flexibilty.
