June 6 2005 What is this guy(gal)?

Looking at this guy(girl) gave me a profound sense of wonder.

I was amazed to watch it climb about the stalks.

Really really amazing was the fact that it spread it's wing and flew away when sufficiently bored with me.

This creature is just the most unlikely flying contraption ever.
But fly he did.

Curiosity got the best of me and I looked him up in the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects & Spiders. Since I cannot see his back, I am basing this on his antenna and colors. I THINK it is a beetle called Long-Jawed Longhorn. :) BTW, the bug pics taken by our pbase photographers far excel over the pics in this book!

Oh yeah . . . awesome pic!! :)
