Bolton Abbey is a ruined 12th century priory in North Yorkshire.
The Bolton Abbey Estate used to belong to the Dukes of Devonshire until a trust was setup by the Andrew Cavendish, 11th Duke of Devonshire and it is the Chatsworth Settlement Trustees who now own the Estate. The 30,000 acre Estate has five areas designated as English sites of special scientific interest, including Strid Wood, an ancient oak wood, which is by the area of the River Wharfe know as The Strid.
