*****I recently came across these shots taken at the Endless Wave skatepark in Oxnard in February of 1978.
They are noteable mostly because they show many of the young Venice skaters all together, but also because people have asked of I had any shots of David Isackson, and it turns out I do. David had a surf shop called Pacific West over near where West Washington (now Abbot Kinney) crossed Venice Blvd. If my memory serves, this trip was part of an attempt to start a a Pacific West skate team.
*****A bunch of us drove up: A mom or two, David, Baron (A local musician… we both used to perform at a little beach bar near the Venice Pier. I still haven’t forgiven him for breaking the sustain pedal right off the piano that we both used), his wee wittl’puppy (who didn’t actually drive), and myself. The trip was a sort of tryout for the team. The Oxnard park was really fine, a predecessor to the Marina park which I don’t believe was open yet. But it was a long haul up there.
