Johnny was young enough to not be hassled too much when he began to learn how to surf at the breakwater. He was a sort of a mascot for a while. He had a place with the skaters if for no other reason than his mother would drive his friends to the Parks. Most of the parents had regular cars that would only hold so many people, so their trips had a certain exclusive character to them, while I had a big empty VW van and we would often squeeze in a crowd. We must have looked like a clown car in the circus when we arrived!
