Parker Herman, the REAL skateboarder, the Baddest Phucker in Venice. He was ALL Venice and never bowed down to any race. We went to Nightengale/Anchorage Elementary with JJ Adams, Johnny Bighead, Cori Tarr, the little bitch from the Ghost and Mrs. Muir etc. When we went to Mark Twain Jr. High, the blacks and my people hassled us because we were "surfers". Parker Herman protected us, including Sam Whipple (actor) RIP. I never forgot about him. He was family, and still is. I had the honor of seeing him at JJ's Paddle Out. I grew up on Dell Avenue in Venice and he and JJ would always come over and my Mom would feed them. Great memories. Parker, remember Miss Ronan ;) ? Arthur Lopez OG V13

Parker, what the hell, remember that time you gave one you brother's friends fishing poles. There was a stack of them in your garage and you said take one.

Too bad Allen came knocking and confiscated it, wow that was a life time ago, hod canal days.

Parker, Scott their older brother Allen and Eric swabeck were the first people that I met when the Friedman Family moved to Cali in 63. We lived on Ancorage St. Back then it was the Venice Peninsula. Even though we went in different directions, Parker was a true friend. Allen save my life when a Saten Slave was dangling me by one foot off the end of the Venice fishing peir. I think that was back in 66 or 67.

cj, remember when kevin broke his collar bone in a bicycle accident right down the block after leaving mahoney's (at the boat house on victoria) one night?

Well - it may be Parker's page - but I remember when that happened to Kevin - his partial lodged in his windpipe and he alnost died. Then - he recounted to me and Rick M. an amazing near-death experience that he had in the hospital - a visitation and the light through the tunnel and the whole nine yards - but it wasn't his time to go - yet. He was left with a nifty scar from that ordeal, if I remember correctly.

Sorry Parker, since this is really your page.....[and look! there's the ramp behind him with the additional 2 ft of vert]

Kevin, it seemed to me, wasn't lacking in the vanity department, something even he could chuckle about, I'm sure. So, after the fact, it's a funny story. At the time, though, this wasn't a laughing matter because, if memory serves, he nearly drowned and then caught pneumonia from all the water he had inhaled...so it was a bit of a nightmare. And, God help me, I tempted to say: " well, that's all water under the bridge".....................................sorry! i gave in to the temptation....

that's a funny story about kevin...

Yes....as far as I know, he always left that partial out when he surfed and he didn't seem sensitive about it which is why I included this picture. I take my bottom partial out when I surf these days, but I have to admit that I don't go out of my way to open all that wide when I'm engaged in conversation. I've got more than one picture of Parker crackin' a big smile, and it seemed that he just didn't care, which I admire. I found myself thinking about him specifically years later when I lost some of mine. Kevin McC, on the other hand, took the opposite approach and left his in when he surfed and swallowed them on a wipeout. It turned out to be a very expensive (and dangerous) operation to remove them. And, of course, Parker looks the handsome devil here, teeth or no!
