Prudy used to take us all to WSA contests and be a judge for Dave Landsdown,..she rented out the shed in her backyard to me in the 80's....Miss you Prudy! Thanx for the love...Crazy Dave

I remember Prudy from Anchorage Street we lived in the apartment behind her and grew up with Tad Holly, Missy, and Harry.
When I was in High School on Long Island a lot of the local guys would dig clams. To get them from deeper water, where they were more plentiful, you needed a boat and a very long handled aluminum rake which you would drag along the bottom as your boat drifted in the wind. Finally you would pull it up, hand over hand, shaking and sifting out the sand and mud and hopefully you would have a rake-basket full of clams. You could make GOOD money and build up your upper torso at the same time. Who lifted weights in those days? The clamdiggers had THE bods.....
When I was in school and I mentioned where I lived (a well known neighborhood on the bay) these guys would invariably ask me if I knew about that wierd lady who would go out at low tide in winter, digging clams by hand out on the mud flats in a fur coat and red go-go boots. Of course it was my mother getting us our dinner. Her galoshes were red and the ratty old coat was the warmest one she had!!
