01278 60-26 11-27-77.jpg

I scanned and posted this shot simply so that I would have a place to park the comments below that refer to the little piece of grass in the foreground.
These had found their way to a page where they didn't belong and so I deleted them there and pasted them here.
The first five comments (from the bottom up) were posted in 2005.(I just moved them in 2013)

THERE .... I remember Rickshaw John and John ( the mayor) McCorchran ... Rickshaw had his van stashed behind the mayor's building @44 Navy St. I drank with Rickshaw almost everyday from 82 thru about 88

I'm not sure my irony is being fully appreciated here.....even before I left Venice Scott H. was beginning to settle in here on many a morning....I didn't think it was a good thing then and I certainly don't think so now!

Someone was always camped out on that grass at night
You could kinda watch all directions from there, so it was a 'get loaded' spot for sure

Would I be a hopeless prude if I were to mention that this was also the spot where a whole generation of young Venice surfers was introduced to the notion that beer was a perfectly reasonable, and ultimately the most extremely koolist breakfast food. Hats off to Rickshaw John!

this strip of grass has some good memories ;)
who has not made out right there ?
or sparked a "fatty" right there.
we had a 1/4 pipe right there
and this strip was LOCALS only real estate when it would get so packed with tourist and
this was during the Rollerblader hating era huh?

To goto that spot now and see nothing is a trip. It was OUR spot to be out of site so to speak.
