Rabbie Burns

Winnipeg, MB

25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796

Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland. His poem (and song) "Auld Lang Syne" - known to the world every New Years.

This statue erected in 1936 by members of the Winnipeg Burns Club No. 197; Rabbie stands watch over the fall leaves with 'The Golden Boy' dominating the top of the provincial legislature.

(I just spent the last two weeks in Winterpeg - thickening my blood in the near Arctic weather enveloping the West.)

A pictorial ode to the bard of Scotland himself, whose works live on in music and spoken word. And rightly so! V

Never knew he was the one behind the New Years song. Nice capture.

a notable voice for the human condition, and a witty soul to boot..no wonder he appears in so many statues...there's one here in Vancouver, and another spotted in Dunedin, New Zealand...doubtless not the end of tributes.
