Technical Info T-02.45

Winnipeg, MB

When the butterfly first emerges it has two proboscises (straw-like appendage used to take in nectar) - it uses mouthparts called labial pedipalps (mitten-like features) to fuse together the proboscis from two thin pieces into one super straw. The butterfly will unroll its proboscis and pat it together between the two palps.
