The summit of Idaho Peak is 2280 metres/7500 feet above sea level. The summit offers spectacular 360-degree views of Slocan Lake, two lakeside villages and several mountain ranges. Note one of the guywires (with red ribbon flying horizontally in the stiff breeze) that prevent the fire-lookout tower on the summit from toppling over in high winds.
Idaho Peak in the West Kootenay region of southern British Columbia is accessed by an unpaved road about 12 kilometers (7 miles) long. The road is rough, narrow, steep and winding and comes to an end at two small parking lots at the 7000-foot level. Silver Ridge Trail starts at one of the parking lots and rises about 500 feet (through brilliant wildflowers in mid-summer) to the summit.
