Ugly little critter - reminds me of the horned toads we used to have in West Texas. I think they've just about died out.

He was quite tame, Gary. The kids there were petting him and handling him. It may look like petting a porcupine, but not really. More a leathery feel to the skin, or like handling a soft plastic model instead of a living critter.
The place takes its name from a steep-walled ravine that runs through...no way out!
