We Have A Winner Folks !!!
Yup all 5 Sullivans were lost on the same boat & because of that at least one male sibling in any family is exempt from being drafted into the military... I'd imagine that has since been extended to females too now that they're serving in active combat roles.. The movie Private Ryan was made based on this principle too...

The ship is a destroyer (DD) which has been replaced by the DDG class. It is also the USS The Sullivans which was named after the five Sullivan brothers. I don't know if the policy change had to do with the Sullivans, but all family members cannot be in a combat zone at the same time. And, if you're the last surviving member of a person killed in combat, you can be excused from serving in a combat zone.

That's one of the hints pertaining to my little guessing game associated with the boats historic significance in the USA's Military change in a certain policy....
Noone seems to wanna play though... ;-}
