Errol - Tzora - Israel

Until 3 years ago one of my pleasures at work was being the mechanic during cotton picking season. Three years ago we stopped picking our cotton and hired a company to do it for us - much cheaper. We used two row "International" cotton pickers. I still have that attraction to the vibe around the coton picking so every year I go and join them for a day. This year the company came with a cotton picking "monster". This is a 6 row "John Deere" picker and is state of the art technology. The guy who drives it called it a user friendly picker (see POTW picture). To really give the experience I had would need may photos from that day but a choice for this gallery had to be made. It isn't the best shot I took that day but represents something of the size and force of the machine.

The John Deere factory here in Des Moines has become a major sellor of cotton pickers internationally. I know guys on the line there and they work 10-hour days for weeks on end whenever a new contract is signed.

So it it really true that "when them cotton bolls get rotten, you can't pick very much cotton?" or is that just one of those old sayings? Your picture really depicts the massive machinery and process, and the story behind it adds a lot.
