A day in the life of a kidney dialysis patient. FYI: the cylinder at far right (you
can only see bottom half) is the patient's artificial kidney. The blood line pulls the blood from
the arm access and sends it through the machine and then through the artifical kidney, where it
runs down through tiny tubes. Coming up the opposite way in the art.kid., flowing around these tubes, is
the dialysate liquid that pulls the toxins and extra fluid out of the blood. (they never touch each
other). Then the blood is pumped back through a return line into the body. The dialysate
goes down the drain. This is repeated over and over for 3 to 4 hours each treatment, 3 times
a week.
