Minneapolis, MN

A staircase at one of my client's locations.

I was shooting with another employee when we were chased away by security. Evidently this is a top secret anti-terrorism staircase and they were afraid we were compromising state secrets. This was the only picture I got off before they made us go away.

I only wish I had remember to go to Aperture Priority. I wish I had been at f8.

Just came back to this gallery through a link and found this one. I really like it.

Well, the camera was firmly atop the Manfrotto and the remote release was in hand. f8 would have brought it down to, what, 1/15, yeah, might have been slow but maybe f5.6 or so would have been better, I just wanted a bit more DOF, would have had it too if the US Marshals, er, rent-a-cops hadn't showed up. ;-) But thanks Bruce for the nice comment. I had been eyeing this staircase (it has a mirror image twin to the left) as something to shoot...the other employee thought so too so we decided to have an informal competition.

Also, the undoctored original is here: http://www.pbase.com/image/17388075

Some cloning of the distracting bolt on the post (I was proud of how well the bolt disappeared ;-) and the features at the top. NeatImaged. Photoshop with slight sharpening, contrast and brightness adjustment because I shoot in the Soft sharpness mode and feel that the camera reduces brightness and contrast at that setting. This staircase has an atrium overhead...it was actually a bit brighter than my modified version.

Keith, it's a pretty good photo as is. If you had gone to f8, the shutter speed would have dropped, possibly to a blur producing level. The camera won't really produce a shallow DOF even at f2.8. In aperture mode, the best approach is not to simply move it automatically to f8, but to sample various settings and watch the shutter speed. You may not have had time to do this with federal espionage charges breathing down your neck.
