VP-91 were originally the WWII Black Cat squadron VPB. When VP-91 was re-commissioned in 1970 the original squadron from WWII was the source. The name Black Cats however did not appear on VP-91 aircraft until 1991 when this information came to light. The Skipper re- named the squadron Black Cats, this being appropriate especially as the squadron CAC-15 were directly involved in combat operations against Iraqi Forces Jan-March 1991.
