The Story of JillyBean - A kitten with Cerebellar Hypoplasia

I added a new member to my family. Her name is Jillybean. She is a special needs kitten who doesn't know she has a disability.
Jillybean was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a disorder in cats and dogs that affects their motor functions. This translates into a kitten that walks as if she has had way to much to drink, falling over as she tries to manuever across a room. There are several things that could have caused this disorder but I doubt I will ever know the exact cause.
Needless to say, I am ecstatic to be able to adopt her and I believe she is just as happy to be in our family.

There are many cats and kittens in the world like me that need a forever home that would love to have a warm lap to cuddle in. It is so wonderful to see a CH kitty adapt so well, and to see your other cats adapt to her to! We have 2 cats (hopefully 3 if we ever find our missing boy) and we've adopted a little boy with cerebellar hypoplasia who we're picking up tomorrow. I'm so excited, especially after reading this, to have him in our home! And your story gives me hope for everyone to get along.

Thank you to everyone that has commented. I have not posted many new photos of JillyBean due to a serious car accident I was in 6 months ago. I'm trying to get back into taking photos and hopefully will be posting some new ones of JillyBean trying to get used to our new floors. So far she isn't liking it much :)

So cute!! We have a kitten who is 9mos. old and has cerebellar hypoplasia. Sadly, the disease has been very progressive in her case and we don't have much time left. She is the most precious cat we've ever had. So loving. Her name is Grace and it fits her perfectly

You are doing a good job and tell your husband thanks for adopting this girl. I had Simon a Ch kitten for 7 months but he lost his battle last pm due to seizures and high temp. we put him down and it broke my heart. I loved him so much. Keep up the good work.

Jillybean (what a cute name) is just like my Topaz. He knocks himself around a lot, but he's a trooper and does everything he can. And he's a real lover . . . my HEART cat.

I am soooo over joyed to see that jillybean has found that special kinda hard to find rare love in these times and days, You are absolutely open hearted angles yourselves just as jillybean herself, I would love to give my entire heart to a baby love like jillybean just as you have,If you know of another special angle such as jillybean please let me know, I am on disability and 50 years old , I have alot of TIME and alot of LOVE.......................

You are an amazing person for accomidating this BEAUTIFUL, SWEET, LOVELY baby!!! I only wish I could afford another kitty ( I am a poor jobless, 20 yr old) which has CH!! <3 Kittys and I was completly ignorant to this disability in cats. I thank your site for opening my eyes. :)

Thank you for sharing. I have Smokey and he's a handful. He was a rescue cat as well and we didn't know if he'd survive or not. Seven years later, he's still a handful and full of energy, as well as loving.

I think my little kitten Holly has CH, adn I have joined your group. She's not too bad and I think she only hs it mildly, but becasue of it she is an extra special kitty, and I absolutely adore her.

I volunteer with my local animal adoption center - working on the cat team that cares for the kitties that are up for adoption (feedings, scooping litter and loving on them.) I also have two cats of my own at home along with a foster.

Keep posting pictures of Jilly and your other cats (btw I love the names you give your cats...very creative.

My wife resembles this story. We call her the crazy cat lady. Every time she fosters a litter, one amazingly doesn't find a home. Funny, but they end up staying. "You honestly didn't expect me to get attached to all those kittens and not keep one." I'm a sucker. We are up to 6 to complement the three dogs, rabbitt, toads and frogs, snakes (we are down to one), bird and many fish. There are probably more that I don't know about yet that she is hiding in her classroom where she teaches children with autism. What a big heart people like you and my wife have.

Great pictures - she's adorable! My Chase has pretty severe CH, but just learned how to pull himself up onto the couch a couple of weeks ago (he's about 10 months old)! I don't think he'll ever learn to get back down gracefully. I worry about him hurting himself too, but he's made it this far - I figure he's probably ok!

When we picked up my cat, Mac, from a cat rescue shelter there was also a cat there with C-H it did not know it had a problem falling over was just normal. This particular cat was not available for adoption and could run free in a large fenced in area. It fell over a lot. But if a bird landed in the yard all bets were off. Into a crouch it would go sneaking up on the bird and then it would charge just like a normal cat. Just as it got to the bird you guessed it over it went. Real world normalancy only lasted 20 feet. It was otherwise a very happy pussycat.
