The bodies of the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shot firefighters who died during the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona were transported from Phoenix to their home town of Prescott. This gallery documents the procession as it went past the State Capitol building in Phoenix. Ninteen white hearses acompanied by scores of other vehicles wound their way to I-17 and then on to Prescott. A large crowd gathered in Wesley Bolin Plaza to pay their last respects as the procession went by. The crowd started appearing about three hours before the procession started; I was able (hopefully) to capture some the mood through my images.
This is truly a sad time for the state of Arizona and Prescott in particular. May God bless each one of the fallen and guide their families through the grief process.
