A group of us, Hannah, Kerith, Ilene, Naomi, and Trudy, have been going bicycle camping annually since 2004 to Cedar Point Park located in East Hampton, Long Island, New York. Wonderful Hannah arranges all our activities for the weekend, plans and leads the bike routes. Thanks to all her excellent planning our camping weekends are "the best ever."
We leave on a Saturday morning and take the LIRR from NYC Penn Station to Yaphank or Mattituck, Long Island. Then bike to Greenport with a luncheon stop along the way. From Greenport we take the ferry to Shelter Island where, in 2012, we spent a couple of hours at a great beach before boarding the ferry to Sag Harbor. In Sag Harbor we buy provisions for that evening's dinner and next day's lunch. From Sag Harbor we bike eight miles to Cedar Point Park and set up our tents at the Bicycle Camp Site (we're usually the only cyclists there).
The following day (Sunday) we usually go to a beach for a day of fun. Shower and change before we leave the beach to bike to Sag Harbor for dinner at the famous Dockside Bar & Grill. On Monday morning we pack up our gear and usually bike out to Montauk Point with a beach stop at Hither Hills along the way. In Montauk we stop off for Ice Cream and then bike to the LIRR for our return trip home.
